Champions in the Community

Champions in the Community

At Herkimer County Community College, the Department of Athletics offers nationally prominent athletic programs.  We believe, that the key to our success is based on the fact that our commitment to student-athletes is genuine and uncompromising and done so within the highest academic and ethical standards.  In keeping with the College's Mission Statement, our mission complements and enhances the development of the total person through core principles of integrity and honesty.  We strive to provide support in all areas of a student-athlete's well-being, including academics, personal growth, wellness and community service.  Herkimer County Community College always aspires to be a just, welcoming and caring community in the fullest sense.  The athletic department embraces this responsibility and seeks to enhance its surrounding community by means of interaction, activities, and programs.

Some of the programs that the athletic teams offer and participate in are as follows:

Baseball

Each fall the men's baseball team supports two important causes for our local community.

-Herkimer holds a "Blood Bowl Series" where the Herkimer baseball team is split up into two separate teams and play a baseball series.  The team that loses the series donates blood to the American Cross Blood Drive that we hold at the school.  The rest of the players work the Blood Drive and we always have a great turn out.

-Each Thanksgiving Herkimer baseball team selects a few individuals to help serve and deliver dinners to community members at the Annunciation Church's Parish Hall in Ilion.  This gives our players a sense of giving and helping out the local community.

Each spring Herkimer baseball holds the First Pitch Program

-First Pitch Program is recognizing someone in our local community who has done something positive or has been a positive influence for the area.  We announce the person throwing out the first pitch and why they are being recognized.  Then after they throw out their pitch we always like to hand them a team signed baseball to remember their special day.

-Herkimer Baseball also participated in the Athletic Departments first ever Children's Easter Egg Hunt
