REGION III CHAMPIONSHIPS
1979, 1980, 1994, 1995
Herkimer has been offering women's basketball since the college opened their campus in Herkimer in 1971. Current Coach John Campagna is in his twentieth season with the Generals and Herkimer continues to have one of the most successful Division III Women's Basketball programs in the Nation. Many of the athletes that participate in women's basketball are multiple sport athletes meaning they participate in more than one sport at the college. Coach Campagna encourages multiple sport participation "Many of our athletes are Physical Education Majors and I think it's important for future PE teachers to experience different sports with a coaching staff that I feel is second to none."
All the Women sports at Herkimer have open tryouts. Most of the Women's basketball players have high school varsity basketball playing experience and the team is usually made up of a core group of athletes from Herkimer and the neighboring counties. Tryouts begin in early October and a challenging 28-30 game schedule begins in November and continues through February. Coach Campagna feels Herkimer offers a tremendous opportunity for basketball players who want to play college basketball and get a great education. "I have been fortunate to coach at Herkimer County Community College because the college attracts great athletes who want a quality, affordable education and a chance play college basketball." The results have been great and 90% our women's basketball players graduate or successfully transfer to four year institutions.
