Nishimura Awarded SUNY Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honor

Sophomore Shuta Nishimura was named the SUNY 2023 Men's Indoor Swimming & Diving NJCAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award recipient.

HERKIMER, NY -- Sophomore Shuta Nishimura was named the SUNY 2023 Men's Indoor Swimming & Diving NJCAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award recipient.

Nishimura recently graduated from Herkimer College with an Art Studies degree. In addition to his academic success, he is a three-time regional champion in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke and was named to the First Team All-Region team in the three events. Shuta holds the all-time team record in the 100 and 200 breaststroke for the Generals.

"I'm so proud of Shuta for winning this award," said men's swimming and diving head coach Nicholas Lanckton. "This is a tribute to all of his hard work both in the pool and in the classroom. Shuta is a great example of everything a student-athlete can be and I am so grateful to have been his coach."
