Generals Split Home Doubleheader with Finger Lakes
The Herkimer College baseball team earned a split against Finger Lakes Community College on Tuesday afternoon, dropping the opener 9-3 before bouncing back with an 8-5 victory in Game 2 at Herkimer College.

The Herkimer College baseball team earned a split against Finger Lakes Community College on Tuesday afternoon, dropping the opener 9-3 before bouncing back with an 8-5 victory in Game 2 at Herkimer College.
In the first game, Finger Lakes used timely hitting and a strong complete-game effort from pitcher Zach Barrett to secure the win.
The Lakers struck first with a solo home run by Brennen Russo in the opening inning before adding another run in the second. Finger Lakes broke the game open in the fourth inning with three runs, highlighted by Nate Brinza's RBI triple and Trevor Pickering's RBI single.
Herkimer answered in the bottom of the fourth when Cooper Rowell delivered a two-run single to score Brandon Hauk and Mack Harris. Christian Mikulski added an RBI single in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 6-3, but Finger Lakes pulled away late with three insurance runs in the seventh.
Kyle Kristel led the Generals with two hits and two stolen bases, while Mikulski also recorded two hits and an RBI. Mack Harris and Cooper Rowell each added hits in the loss.
In Game 2, Herkimer responded with an offensive breakout to earn the split.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, the Generals answered with three runs to take the lead. Kyle Kristel started the rally with an RBI bunt single before Christian Mikulski tripled home a run and Adam Weiss followed with an RBI double.
Herkimer then exploded for five more runs in the fifth inning. Kristel delivered the biggest hit of the game with a two-run inside-the-park home run, while Mikulski and Weiss each added RBI hits during the rally.
Kristel finished with two hits, including the inside-the-park homer, and three RBIs. Mikulski went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and two RBIs, while Weiss collected three hits and drove in two runs. Jude Flint added two hits and William Toliver contributed an RBI.
On the mound, Ryder Herchenroder earned the victory after striking out eight over five innings. Spencer Natoli tossed two scoreless innings in relief, striking out two to close out the win.
The split moved Herkimer forward as the Generals continued their busy late-season schedule.
