Generals Split Doubleheader with CCRI Behind Perry's Complete-Game Win
HERKIMER, N.Y. – The Herkimer Generals softball team earned a split of its doubleheader against the CCRI Lady Knights on Sunday, dropping the opener 5-0 before bouncing back with a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.

HERKIMER, N.Y. – The Herkimer Generals softball team earned a split of its doubleheader against the CCRI Lady Knights on Sunday, dropping the opener 5-0 before bouncing back with a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.
Olivia Perry was strong in the circle throughout the day, tossing two complete games while earning the win in game two.
Game One: CCRI 5, Herkimer 0
The Lady Knights struck first in the opening inning when Becca Hornung singled home the game's first run and never relinquished the lead.
CCRI pitcher Sophia Valentini kept the Generals' offense in check, limiting Herkimer to five hits over seven scoreless innings while striking out six.
Perry turned in another complete-game effort despite taking the loss, allowing five runs, only two of them earned, on six hits while striking out three over seven innings.
Lauren Kelly paced the Generals offensively with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Perry added two stolen bases.
Game Two: Herkimer 7, CCRI 3
The Generals responded with an impressive offensive performance in the second game to earn the split.
Herkimer took control early, scoring twice in the second inning. Brianna Molter drove in the first run with a groundout before Ariana Ferraro added another with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt.
The Generals extended the lead in the third inning, adding two more runs, including an RBI single by Grace Neville to build a 4-0 advantage.
Perry took care of the rest, working through traffic throughout the afternoon to earn the complete-game victory. The sophomore allowed three runs on 11 hits while striking out seven and walking just one.
Herkimer's offense produced 11 hits in the win. Neville led the way with three RBIs while going 2-for-3 from the seventh spot in the lineup. Alexis Broderick collected three hits, and Emma Carlton and Perry each added multiple-hit performances.
The Generals also turned in a flawless defensive effort, committing no errors. Neville led the team with eight defensive chances.
The split showcased Herkimer's resilience, as the Generals rebounded from the opening-game shutout with a balanced offensive attack and another complete-game performance from Perry to finish the day on a winning note.
