Women’s Lacrosse comes up short at home Wednesday

HERKIMER, NY – Despite getting a nine goal performance from Kyli-Marie Towner in their first regular season game, the Herkimer Generals women's lacrosse team lost to Jefferson at Wehrum Stadium on Wednesday (3/16) in regulation 16-12.

Herkimer (0-1) found themselves down by three (5-2) within the first 10 minutes of regulation until they ripped off three straight goals in the span of three minutes to tie the game at six a piece. Netting two of those goals was Towner (Sherrill, NY), then the freshman also assisted on the other goal to Emily Becker (Liverpool, NY) with 15:58 left in the half.

That momentum change was short lived however as the Cannoneers outscored the Generals 6-to-2 in the final nine minutes of the first half, going in at intermission ahead 11-7.

Jefferson was able to build their lead to seven (14-7) in the second half until Herkimer managed another spur, netting four unanswered goals, two from Towner, and two from Alexandria Hardy (Kerhonlson, NY) which cut the deficit to 14-11 with over 10 minutes left. It could've dwindled to 14-12, but a goal by Taylor Mann (Warwick, NY) was waived due to a stick violation.

The comeback was nullified after the Cannoneers netted two goals with 4:18 and .35 left to help increase their lead back to five (16-11).

Herkimer's next game is this Sunday (3/20) at Wehrum Stadium. The Generals will host Anne Arundel at 1 p.m. The Riverhawks will ride into Herkimer, NY with a perfect 4-0 record if they defeat Monroe CC on Saturday (3/19).
